Alley Breeze

There's a breeze in this alley,

an energetic, giddy kind of gale, the kind that pulls your arms forward.

Down, the puddles litter the cobble.

Each step uneven, a slip, a jerk, the possibility to trip on these stones.

Look up, peering the building corners for the wind.

Could it leave without you?

You can return to your walk, the slow crooked steps to the door.

But if you pause for a moment, and wait,

a part of you may be brave enough to love again.
